“But cowards, unbelievers (those without faith), the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars- their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

When reading through Revelation 21, it brings this sense of security and joy to the reader because of how John describes what he is seeing - Heaven. He saw God dwelling with humanity (v. 3), God wiping away our tears, promising us no more pain or grief, and death no longer existing (v.4), and then the One on the throne (Jesus) tells John He is going to make all things new and that we are His inheritance (v. 5-7). And then you read verse 8, and it’s slightly scary and intimidating. But after John continues to describe the beauty of Heaven. It’s almost as if verse 8 doesn’t fit, but if we believe the Bible to be guided by...

"At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense.“You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.”

“I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and reasonable. King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.”

Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?”

Paul replied, “Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am...  Acts 26:24-25, 27-29 (NIV)

Allow me to set the scene. Paul has just arrived at Jerusalem and shortly after is informed that there were Jews there that had been spreading false rumors about his character and what he’s been up to. Some of Paul’s friends planned to reconcile Paul with the Jew’s there. The plan was to have him g...

Jude 1:7- And don't forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God's judgment. (NLT)

Many people want to believe that God doesn’t sentence people to “eternal fire” for rejecting Him. But this is clearly taught in the scriptures. Sinners who don’t seek forgiveness from God will face eternal separation from Him. Jude wants all to know the importance of not Ignoring, rejecting, or rebelling against God. In these last days, evil will rise, and Satan will try to steal, kill, and destroy as many people as he can because the Kingdom of heaven is near. The enemy will do everything he can to keep people from standing for Jesus Christ and declaring the Gospel. The enemy can try and do all he wants, but we WI...

"He required everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name.   Wisdom is needed here. Let the one with understanding solve the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666." Revelation 13:16-18 (NLT)

Our verse today sounds straight out of a sci-fi, end of the world movie. Many have made much about the number 666, but the number itself has no magic power. The reality is that the number is representative of what many call the "unholy trinity."

The Bible gives us insight into a Holy Trinity made up of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The devil is not original, nor is he creative. He is a mimicker and a mocker. One of the ways the...

Matthew 24:14-And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (NIV)

This verse shows why it is so important to share the good news about Jesus to all people because we are living in the last days. God has called us to be His Disciples and reach every nation, every tongue, and every tribe. So all will be without excuse because they have heard about Jesus and the sacrifice He made to give us eternal life. Make no mistake we are living in the last days. No one knows when Jesus will return so we must always be prepared. Looking to the east for His return on the clouds of glory coming to save His people. Jesus said that before He returns, the Good News about the Kingdom (the message of salvation) would be preached throughout the world. Jesus talked about end times and final judgment to sh...

"Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.” James 3:1-2 (NLT)

The words that we speak let us know whether our hearts are in good shape or not. They give us clues to whether we are being transformed by God’s Spirit or simply just stagnant (not growing). The Bible says, “…For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45 - ESV). When I first believed in Jesus, I lost half of my vocabulary, if you know what I mean. I didn’t talk the same, and the things I desired were now different. To those who knew me, it was obvious. The way I talked changed because the source of my words changed - my heart.

Like all believers, when...

"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:30 NASB

When it comes to dating I certainly did not do myself any favors with decisions I made throughout high-school and even through college. I was a “serial dater” one relationship to the next leaving a trail of hurt feelings, anger, and a reputation of being something I did not want to be. I was not careful with who I made myself available too and I put myself in situations where I had no chance of maintaining my spiritual integrity. After a broken engagement to a girl I had been with for several years I realized that I had to take a step back and reevaluate my dating priorities.

I had my dating priorities established in the order much like Proverbs 31:30. I looked for a girl with charm and beauty first, then if she had a relationship with Jesus it was li...

"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do." Joshua 1:7 (NLT)

Obeying Jesus is scary. It requires courage to face the unknown and to overlook the many outcomes that might come our way. When we remember who is asking us (Jesus) and what He knows (everything), obeying becomes a little more reasonable. Our emotions of fear may still be strong, but our trust in Jesus and His goodness helps us to overcome these feelings.

That is what courage is. The grace we receive to obey when we put our trust in Jesus because we know He loves us and has a great plan for our lives. Walking in courage is not easy and often comes with difficulties, but it always works out for His glory (people see Him in our lives) and o...

Proverbs 24:14-Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. (NIV)

We can always ask our Heavenly Father for wisdom and receive it. James 1:5 says, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking." Wisdom is waiting for you, ask with expectation in your heart because God will surely give it to you. Ask Him with a pure and sincere heart because He cares for you. When you were little, you could ask your mom for a sandwich or drink, and you believed immediately that she would get it for you. That’s asking with expectation and not having any doubt. God expects us to believe in Him that way. If you genuinely follow Jesus and have committed your life to follow Him, you can ask for wisdom with expectation, and He will give it to y...

"The way of the LORD is strength for the upright, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity."  Proverbs 10:29 (NKJV)

Have you ever felt spiritually weak, like the same temptation keeps getting the best of you? We all have. I have learned over the years, that spiritual weakness is no different than physical weakness. When I fail to keep my body strong by not eating healthy, not exercising and not resting amidst the busyness of life, I become susceptible to sickness and fatigue.

What happens in the physical is also true in the spiritual. When we fail to take care of our spiritual selves, we grow weak, and temptation seems to have its way with us.

I have learned over the years the truth of this verse. When I walk in obedience to God's plan for my life, I experience a strength I was unaware of. When I fail to obey and instead walk in my own ways, I am...
