Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’ Jesus responded, ‘Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!’ Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.” Matthew 8:23-26 (NLT)

What an amazing picture - The disciple's boat is in the middle of great storm and Jesus is sleeping. He is in the middle of a storm and He is at peace. Now don’t be fooled. This isn’t a peace that Jesus simply possessed because He was the Son of God; it was a peace cultivated over years of relationship with His Heavenly Father. A love that was grown through faithful, sacrifical, and consistent time.

Matthew 8:20-22- Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

The cost of following Jesus is EVERYTHING. What are you holding back from God? I would say our first answer would be that we aren’t holding anything back from Him. Let me ask you in this way. Are you doing things that honor God on Friday and Saturday night? I hear lots of people say I’m a Christian, but when people look at your life do they see a Christ-like life?

I had a young man tell me today that he encouraged a classmate to change for Jesus. The sad thing was, the classmate he was encouraging considers himself to be a Christian. His answer was achieving perfection is impossible so why even try t...

“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, ‘I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven. But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”  Matthew 8:10-12 (NLT)

What an amazing statement by Jesus! “Those for whom the Kingdom was prepared (sons - NKJV) - will be thrown into outer darkness…” This statement comes on the heels of a Roman guard (Non-Jewish, religious person) asking Jesus to heal his servant. Jesus responds to this man’s request and insightful words (Matthew 8:5-9) with how amazed He was at the guard’s faith an...

“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act.” Matthew 7:15-16a (NLT)

In Jesus day, like today, people would teach certain things apart from the truth of God and His Word in order to make a profit. That’s why they called them “False Profits.” Haha. Sorry, “False Prophets.”

Today false prophets come in all shapes and sizes teaching all sorts of false and harmful ideas. We hear them every day in our own thoughts, on our tv screens, and across our bluetooth ear buds. They are politicians, musicians, artists, friends, teachers and religious leaders.

They teach, “My way leads to fullness.” “My way leads to happiness.” “If you listen to my advice, everyone will like you.” “If you wear what I wear, you will matter.” “If you treat girls like objects, you...

Matthew 7:24-25- “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

When you face tough times, do you have confidence? Confidence that God will be the reason you make it through difficult times. What storms are you facing right now in life? It may seem like it is always raining in your life. You may feel that lighting strikes at the worst time possible for you and makes things worse in your life.

Often it can feel like the storm is almost over and then the wind starts to blow harder. I’m talking about the storms that we all face in life. The storms that seem never to go away. Just wish your parents would get along or that teacher would...

"When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, 'Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.' Jesus replied, 'Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.' Another disciple said to him, 'Lord, first let me go and bury my father.' But Jesus told him, 'Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.'” - Matthew 8:18-22

When there is a crowd of believers (ie. at camp, retreats, D2S, etc.) it is easy to say “I’m going to follow Christ” or “I’m going to give my life to the Lord” because it almost seems effortless or like a fairytale in those situations; but, Jesus tells us right here in this verse that is can be difficult. When he says “the Son of Man has no place to lay his head”, he is talking about here on THIS...

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?  Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!  So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Matthew 7:7-12 (NLT)

How I wish you could understand the heart of a parent! It would help you understand these verses so much easier. My mom always said to me, “You will understand better when you are a parent.” She was right.

Parent’s innately desire to give good things to their children. It doe...

Matthew 6:11- Give us today our daily bread.

God provides us with what we need and what we need may not always be what we want. He knows what is best for us. What is it that you need today? Have you taken the time to ask Him for what you need? Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is unknown, but today is the day. Focus on today’s bread, and God will give us what we need for today. He doesn’t give us more than we need, so we shouldn't try to save something for tomorrow. Today is the only day that we are currently living, and as He provides our daily bread, we should make the most of that bread. Maybe we need love, and when love is extended to us by parents or friends that shine with the face of Christ, we can’t reject it. God is giving you what you need, but often we don’t make the most of His daily bread for us because we fail to recognize Him in our everyday routin...

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’...

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

What do you treasure most? Is it fame, wealth, power, popularity, stuff, status, or social media image. I think we have moved to a place where we avoid conversation with one another. Hoping that the girl or guy we are trying to get to notice us will believe that what they see us as on Instagram and snapchat is who we actually are.

Guys, you're just hoping that girls will want to get with you and girls, you're hoping that one guy that keeps flexing on snapchat will see you.

It’s unhealthy to build up an image that is not the actual you,...
