“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

If you are anything like me, coffee plays a crucial part in your life. Being that I used to work at a coffee shop and have had a cup or two or three, or five each day for the past five years or so you become somewhat of an aficionado.

There are few things more important to the coffee brewing process besides the actual coffee itself. I would say the second most important thing is the piece of paper that you pour your freshly ground coffee onto and hot water through; commonly referred to as a filter. The simplest way to describe the extremely straight forward yet hugely important jo...

"Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness."  James 3:18 (NIV)

Are you a person that starts fires, fuels them, or puts them out? Middle school and high school is full of gossip. He said, she said, he broke up with her, she cheated on him, and on and on and on. God loves peacemakers but some love to start fires or fuel them.

If you like to start gossip, you are starting a fire and if you like to speak your thought on conversations of gossip, you are fueling the fire. Very few say the words to put out the fire, but those that do are peacemakers.

When you plant peace, you will receive a harvest of righteousness. Nothing good comes from being a gossip but being a peacemaker, brings peace and righteousness.

Plant loving and caring words; not words of hate and destruction. There is enough hate and destruction in this world. Pray that your words wo...

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. - 1 Peter 1:8 (NLT)

“One of the most interesting and remarkable things Christians learn is that laughter does not exclude weeping. Christian joy is not an escape from sorrow. Pain and hardship still come, but they are unable to drive out the happiness of the redeemed.”

- Eugene Peterson

Before I chose Christ, He chose me. Joy is embedded in my mind and tattooed on my heart. My victory is in being redeemed. I can’t see Him, but I see Him. I can’t hear Him, but I listen to Him. I can’t taste or feel Him, but His sweetness and gentle touch are forever present. We don’t see because we are unwilling to seek and we don’t feel because our love is far from Him. When we dive into the depths of Christ are senses come alive as...

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”  The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3:24-26 (ESV)

The prophet Jeremiah, who penned our verses for today, called God his portion. What he didn't say was, "God is the One who gives me my portion." So many of us approach God for what He can do for us and what He can give us.

Imagine in all of your relationships, you merely approached friends, family, and peers for what they could give you and what they could do for you? How would they see you? How healthy would those relationships be? How do you see those who have approached you for what you could give and do for them? I'm sure those relationships didn't last long or even get off the ground.

We are often told Christianity is...

And also, “If the righteous are barely saved, what will happen to godless sinners?” So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. 1 Peter4:18-19 (NLT)

It’s not even our righteousness that saves us, but the righteousness of Christ that lives within us. These two verses make me realize how great our God is. I’m barely saved, but at the same time completely saved because of Christ. He has set up camp in my life and made His dwelling place within my heart. Not by force, but because I asked Him to. Even as we choose Christ, He is not pushy but has given us free will and the opportunity to live for Him day in and day out.

As I continue to live to please God, I may suffer for doing what is right, but because God created me, He will never fail me. I think w...

"I will never leave you, I will never forsake you." - Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

Winter is a time of year where we live in a place where it’s so dark out, and we are affected by light in our lives. Just recently a 27-year-old girl in our area tried to commit suicide, but in her attempt, she was rescued. I wonder what type of darkness was following her around, attacking her at every corner, and when she decided she couldn’t escape it. I remember some of the dark points in my life. When you feel like the day is never going to end, and everything is against you, but no one sees it but you.

My bigger problem was that there wasn’t enough light in my life. All I could see was darkness, and honestly, that's sometimes all I wanted to see (darkness). The weather, our friends, our parents, and school, all have more influence on us then we realize. Meanwhile, God is somewhere los...

"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow." James 1:2-8 (NLT)

When my boys were younger and it would rain, my wife would tell them to go get their rain boots and play outside. They would love it. We have pictures and videos from these times and they are always heartwarming to look at.

Somewhere from childhood to the teenage years (and especially adulthood), playing in the rain loses its magic. Instead of getting our rain boots on when it begins to drizzle, we take out our umbrellas or run for cover.

Rain is rarely convenient and usually uncomfortable. The only exceptions to this are drought or being stranded in the desert. Even though rain is inconvenient and uncomfortable, it is necessary. It is necessary f...

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. - Galatians 2:20a (NLT)

God as made you full of life and full of passion. When we invite God into our life, we gain Life. He has been waiting to call your name, to let you know that your name is written in the book of Life. Be alive today! Our Heavenly Father has called us into His family, and because of that, we have everlasting joy and peace that never dies. The Life that keeps on living.

God takes us back to the day to when we first welcomed you into our lives. Our first hello to You and our first experience of Your love. Don’t put your relationship with God on hold. Our relationship with Him is far more important than anything this world has to offer. I can only imagine the plans that God has for you this summer. We have been conditioned only to expect what we s...

"A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him. Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance." John 12:2-3 (NLT)

It was customary in Jesus' day for hosts to anoint their honored guests with a small dab of a fine fragrance. Mary shattered this tradition, by breaking the vessel that contained the fragrance and pouring it all over Jesus' feet. In both gospels this event is recorded, the disciples were not happy at such a waste.

Passion will always lead to criticism from others, because passion doesn't take into account what is practical. It is always an excess. In fact, we were all created to be passionate. Because of this truth, we are all passionate about something....

“Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” Mark 14:70 (NIV)

For those who may not know, Peter was one of the first people Jesus called to be a disciple. Peter wasn’t always called Peter. When he first met Jesus his name was Simon. In John 1:42 it tells us that Jesus met Simon through Simon’s brother Andrew. Jesus said to Simon, “You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas (which, when translated, is Peter).” When Jesus looked at Simon Peter Jesus was looking at him while looking passed him. Jesus was able to see who he was, who he is, and who he will be. Jesus was able to see the whole lifespan by one glance at Peter. Peter would no longer be called Simon, but be called by a new name and would be known as a follower of Jesus.

Imagine you are in need of a green b...
