"A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him. Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance." John 12:2-3 (NLT)

It was customary in Jesus' day for hosts to anoint their honored guests with a small dab of a fine fragrance. Mary shattered this tradition, by breaking the vessel that contained the fragrance and pouring it all over Jesus' feet. In both gospels this event is recorded, the disciples were not happy at such a waste.

Passion will always lead to criticism from others, because passion doesn't take into account what is practical. It is always an excess. In fact, we were all created to be passionate. Because of this truth, we are all passionate about something....

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Hebrews 5:7 (NLT)

What if you could stop time? What would you do? Would you live in the moment or just exist? Don’t just survive, live and be aware of the moments that are before you. Jesus was never in a hurry and always lived in the moment. Never actually stopping time, but always being present in time. You don’t have to miss opportunities to share the good news about Jesus or help that friend that is hurting.

Live in the love of Christ and allow Him to clothe you with His peace and His grace. Then, you will be able to identify what is needed in the moments of life. Don’t be hurried by the clock of this world, instead withdraw and spend time with the Lord. Your...

Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” - Psalm 32:1-2 (NLT)

Almost 17 yrs. ago, my wife and I celebrated our wedding day. That day was filled with so much joy and excitement. It was also a day in which I experienced the pain that Jesus promised we would come in contact with when we follow Him heart, soul, mind, and strength. During our reception, one of my best men (I had two) started a fight with me. It was a buildup of his frustration concerning my "new found life" in Jesus, which meant no more "old life" living with him and my other friends.

Our wedding, which was filled with worship, scripture, and prayer, just turned frustration into anger. I remember the hurt I felt. It carried over to our h...

The Beatitudes

“One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.

‘God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,

for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

God blesses those who mourn,

    for they will be comforted.

God blesses those who are humble,

for they will inherit the whole earth.

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,

    for they will be satisfied.

God blesses those who are merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

God blesses those whose hearts are pure,

    for they will see God.

God blesses those who work for peace,

for they will be called the children of God.

God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,

    for...

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Psalm 139:7-8 (NIV)

Jason Upton says in one of his songs, these words, “from the mountain to the valley, from the desert to the raging sea, from the silence to the city streets, your presence always covers me.” There is no mountain you can go to that God isn’t. There is no depth that you can go to that God isn’t. He is well of Life in the abandoned desert and the boat of protection in the raging sea. There is no isolated place that He isn’t present. He is the voice in the silence and the silence in the city streets.

One time when I was about 17 years old I thought that during my time of hardship that had me caught between losing a football game and finding a girlfriend. God would hear me if I went to a m...

"But the disciples had forgotten to bring any food. They had only one loaf of bread with them in the boat. As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod.”

The Pharisees were the pastors of Jesus' day. And like any other profession or calling there were "good" ones and "bad" ones. Many of the Pharisees that Jesus ran into were in it for all the wrong reasons. You see, also in Jesus' day, spiritual leaders were highly respected and financially secure. As Jesus said about them in Matthew 6:5, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites (Pharisees), for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others." (NIV).

Pharisees were supposed to be spiritual leaders who ministered to others from a personal relationship with God. Instead, they ministered to...

He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Revelation 21:6 (NIV)

Mountains are mentioned more than 500 times in the Bible, and in our world today the fresh water comes from mountain springs. Fiji water starts as equatorial trade winds purify the clouds and tropical rain falls on a pristine rainforest through one of the world’s last virgin ecosystems. Those waters filter through layers of volcanic rock, slowly gathering the natural minerals and electrolytes that give Fiji water its smooth taste. Deep below the earth’s surface, shielded from external elements by confining layers of rock. Natural pressure forces the water towards the surface, where it’s bottled at the source, free from human contact until you unscrew the cap. Untouched by...

"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

When you repent (turn from your way of life) and give your life to Jesus, you will be the first to notice you are NEW! You will be filled with an understanding of forgiveness and you will have new desires. Anyone who has been saved knows you don’t necessarily lose all of your old desires as much as you receive new ones.

Because of God’s Spirit in you, you have received a heart to live for Him and love Him. You never had those desires before Jesus transformed you. Because of this salvation, you will see people in a new light. You will see them as either lost or saved. You see them as valuable and lovable (not perfectly of course - growth and maturity in you still have to happen). I know this was true for me. I began to loo...

"I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!”   Psalm 27:13-14 NKJV

How hard is it to wait for something that you cannot see? Better yet, how hard is it to believe that good is coming when your situation seems so bleak? I admit, I struggle with this. Perhaps it comes when you study very hard for a test and don’t do very well on it. Others times it comes when there is a certain thing you really want to happen, but it just seems like things won’t fall into place. It just seems like there is no place to turn and that the end result is going to be bad.

It is very easy to get discouraged and not know what to do when this happens.  So, how can you avoid becoming d...

Don't forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called "uncircumcised heathens" by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. Ephesians 2:11 (NLT)

Are you an outsider? Do you look at other people that are experiencing God and say, “I wish I had that.” Those that have given their hearts and lives to Christ are not outsiders. You no longer have to look in through the windows, if you have a relationship with Jesus you have given Him an invitation into your life and control of your heart, soul, body, and mind.

You are now living with God as He lives in you. If Jesus lives in your house and your house meaning your life, what rooms are you asking him to stay out of? We can’t ask Jesus to come into our house and run it, then say, “stay out of my room!”

Prayer

Lord today reveal to me wher...
