Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. - John 4:35 (ESV)

Farmers wait for their crops to grow, but when harvest time comes, harvesting the crop actually takes work and time. Let me say it like this, you may be in the middle of a blessing, but in order to see the results of it you may have to spend a little time working hard. It’s a blessing to reach a time and place where you see a crop that is ready to be harvested, but the fullness of the blessing is on the other side of the harvest.

I’m excited for you as you read this because chances are if you are reading these devotionals you are spending time with God and being obedient to His will the best you can. You are making an effort to move towards God. When we experience a blessing we don’t stop movi...

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? Matthew 16:24-26 (NLT)

What a question, “Is anything worth more than your soul?” I think we would reflexively answer,  "No way!" The truth is our words rarely tell the whole story of what we value. I have learned over time that words are down on the list of things we should use to measure what we love. In fact, Jesus says it this way, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

What does Jesus mean by that statement? First, we have to define what is meant by the word...

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Hebrews 5:7 (NLT)

What if you could stop time? What would you do? Would you live in the moment or just exist? Don’t just survive, live and be aware of the moments that are before you. Jesus was never in a hurry and always lived in the moment. Never actually stopping time, but always being present in time. You don’t have to miss opportunities to share the good news about Jesus or help that friend that is hurting.

Live in the love of Christ and allow Him to clothe you with His peace and His grace. Then, you will be able to identify what is needed in the moments of life. Don’t be hurried by the clock of this world, instead withdraw and spend time with the Lord. Your...

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27 (NLT)

One of the most asked questions by students is "How can I know God's voice?"

My steady answer has been, "His voice sounds like His WORD (Bible) and looks like Jesus (life)."

Most of the time, when students ask this question, they are looking for direction from God concerning areas of work, dating, college, and the like. While God clearly has a plan for where you should work and go to college, He is more concerned that you are seeking a deepening relationship with Him and looking to live in love toward the people in your home and the people you encounter on a daily basis. This is exactly what Jesus meant when He said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Jesus expects His disciples to know His voice and to follow H...

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." - Matthew 4:19 (NIV)

Graduation is this weekend for all our seniors and a new chapter in life is starting, but there is one chapter that will always stay open and continue to be added to. That chapter is the story and the life of following Jesus. We may change schools or change grades, but God is always present and the same in our lives. We don't have to follow the changes in this world. We can stay in the story that Christ is writing about our lives.

Be a disciple that makes disciples. When your location and friends change don't let it change you. Be the change that those around you need. Go into the world, displaying the Light of Christ. I have seen too many young people adapt and change because their new friends influence them, or they go off to college and lose sight of Jesus. You...

“For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts,” says the Lord." Isaiah 55:9

One of my biggest struggles I face every day is letting my thoughts consume me. When a challenge arises or self-doubt surfaces, my thoughts overwhelm me- “you aren’t good enough.. you don’t measure up.. you’re unworthy”. But according to this verse, I should be telling myself “Be quiet” because God’s thoughts about me are so much more important and so much higher than mine. His thoughts should be the ones consuming me and overwhelming me in those moments of fear and doubt.

So what does God think about me? In Ephesians, Paul states in chapter 1 verse 18 that we are His glorious inheritance. Like what? That inheritance all of us look forward to receiving one day? God views us as His inheritance that h...

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. - 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NKJV)

Are weapons in spiritual warfare are prayer, faith, hope, love, God's Word, and the Holy Spirit. We aren't fighting against people, and our anger/frustration is not at or against people, but with the sin and the enemy that is controlling their life. We don't fight with fist and words of destruction. We are called to surrender these dark things of this world to Christ and point people to the love of Christ without compromising His truth. We are all unworthy of His love, but because of His grace, we prop Him...

“Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you these things, and I do it to safeguard your faith." Philippians 3:1

As a teacher for years, I used the phrase, "Repetition is learning." Anything we would like to do well needs to be repeated, as long as what is repeated is correct. That is also true for wrong behaviors. We usually call these bad habits; they too are born out of repetition.

Here we are with the Apostle Paul, who was a passionate teacher and who knew what mattered most for following Christ. He says, like any good teacher, I never get tired of repeating myself (teaching). He does this for their good and not his own. He calls it a safeguard, something that will keep them from falling and failing.

All through scripture, God does the same thing, repeating Himself in the things that matter most, D...

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” - John 4:24 (NIV)

We go with what we know. We all have been raised by someone in a certain way and when we encounter something that we haven't experienced before. It challenges what we believe and even scares us. If someone lives their life differently than you do, but still serves Jesus, does that make the way they live wrong?

No, it doesn't because those that have surrendered their heart's to Jesus come from all different backgrounds and celebrate differently, but all are celebrating the same God. Worshippers must worship in Spirit and in truth. Don't limit Spirit and truth worship because of what you know based off of tradition or upbringing. Let God teach you what Spirit and in truth worship is.

Don't force what you feel on people you don't know. What they know may change how...

We believe the only life worth living is the “uncommon” life that results from having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  We encourage our youth to experience this life through a daily time with Jesus,  worship, ministry, and prayer.
