What a Friend We Have in Jesus
"This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin." Hebrews 4:15 (NLT)
When you think of the components that make up a good, healthy relationship or friendship, I'm sure one of the first things that come to mind is how well the other person can relate to you, your likes, your personality, your weaknesses, and your strengths. Any of you that have found these things in a person can attest to the comfort and security that you have found in that particular person or persons. I love how Eugene Peterson describes Jesus in the Message translation. He says that Jesus is a priest who isn't out of touch with our reality. We serve a God that cares so much that He sent His own son to feel what we feel, see what we see, touch what we touch, and hurt like we hurt. He did all of this out of His crazy love for you and for me. Try and wrap your mind around this, the Creator of this Universe gets us! Unlike our parents who, at times, think it's appropriate to text "LOL" or call texting "emailing"; rather we can relate to our God through this guy named Jesus, and that's exactly what the Father of the Trinity desires of us, and that is the reason He sent His son on a rescue mission in the first place - to have a relationship with His creation. Before Jesus, only a select few could actually commune with God, but now, because of the death, burial, and resurrection of our High Priest, we can fully relate and communicate with God. Lord, thank you that through Jesus I can approach the throne of grace with confidence and receive mercy and grace. I ask for your mercy and grace today in everything I say and do. Help me to stay close to you and walk in an ever nearing relationship with you today.
