"For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus." Romans 6:23 (NIV)
What is a fair wage? We work to make a wage, to get paid. We look forward to payday. But what if our wage, our payment was death? That would be silly, who works to die? This bible verse tells us plainly that when we sin, when we miss the mark, our wage or payment will be death. We will die. This death is eternal separation from God. No one would work for that. But we do, maybe not intentionally or willfully, but we do miss the mark, we fall short. There is hope. The remainder of this verse says but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus. Now who doesn't love a gift? Pay attention to what the gift is, it is eternal life, through Christ Jesus. Being separated from God forever was not God's plan. God wants all people to know him and live with him eternally in heaven. God's plan is a gift. No work involved. It is free. A gift is given without anything required but to accept and receive the offer. The gift God is offering is his son Jesus. Our part is to accept the work Jesus did for us. That work was Jesus' death, burial and resurrection from the dead. When we accept by faith Jesus' death on the cross for our sins , we have received the greatest gift of all, and that is living forever in the presence of God. I will accept that gift over a paycheck anyday. How about you? Will you accept the gift of Jesus today?
