"Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
What do you desire? Where does your imagination go when you dream of experiencing that which you have always wanted? For most of us, the answer to those questions would probably be something that is materialistic in nature. Maybe it is an achievement or goal you are working towards. But those things are temporary and are symptomatic of your truly deepest desires. The deepest desires of every human heart are to live a life of significance, to be loved unconditionally, and to experience a lasting peace and joy. When we lack these, we search for temporary things to fill the void. When we fill the eternal with the temporary, it will only last temporarily. But, when we make Jesus the focus and goal of our lives, then our deepest needs are met. This is because we have now filled the eternal (our deepest desires) with the Eternal (Jesus). And that is lasting and real. The result can be felt, and the evidence can be seen in our lives. When we experience Christ, the true desire of our hearts, the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will be evident to all. Stop trying to fill the eternal with temporary, and you will experience Jesus today and forever! He is our greatest need and must be our Greatest desire.
