Don't Trust in Worry
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
Let me ask you a question? What has “worry” ever done for you? I can’t think of one single testimony where someone said the following, “… and then I began to worry, and felt the most incredible peace and strength and joy. I couldn’t believe the clarity I received concerning my situation…” You never heard that one either have you? That is because worry and anxiety never lead to positive outcomes. Worry and anxiety only rob of us clarity, strength, and joy. Why not listen to what Paul said in our verse today. Don’t let worry be the path you take when dealing with problems, but let prayer (talking to Jesus) and petition (asking Jesus’ for His help concerning our own physical, spiritual, and emotional needs) be the paths we take instead. Notice it said, “everything.” That means, there is no request that Jesus thinks is a bad request. No situation that Jesus would say, “sorry, I won’t help with that.” If it is a concern of your heart, then it qualifies. But there is a catch. We must pray with an attitude of thanksgiving and not begging. Begging presumes that the party being asked is unwilling to grant our request and is uncaring. Jesus isn’t like that at all. Because we matter to Him, what matters to us, matters to Him. Since He loves us and desires to take care of us, He want’s us to come to Him with an attitude of thanksgiving. Thanksgiving, because we know He is actually excited to help us and show us how much He truly cares for us. And when we choose to trust in Him instead of trusting in worry, He is more than happy to reveal Himself through answered prayer. Choose to trust in Jesus instead of worry. What has worry ever done for you anyway? Jesus can do all things!
