Created For Good

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

First and foremost, each and every one of us is a great work of art. We are not some quick doodle or sketch, by any means. We are a gradual, troublesome masterpiece that requires many hours and headaches by its' artist to perfect. God is a powerful and creative artist that desires us to be a beautiful work of art. With strokes of His brush He has given us His grace and His salvation, which nothing we could ever do could merit. No amount of effort, ability, intelligence, or act of service could qualify us for salvation. We can never obtain salvation unless we allow God do a work on us, just as a canvas can never become a masterpiece unless it allows the artist to do a work on it. Once we are created in Christ Jesus, WE ARE NOT DONE AND OUR PAINTING IS NOT FINISHED. We have been created for righteousness and true holiness, and for good works that are the fruits of the grace, which have been lavished on us by God. Good works have been prepared beforehand for the children of God to walk in after we have been created in Christ Jesus. Good works are NOT a prerequisite for salvation, but are a fruit and effect of the salvation that God wrought in you and me. The Bible says faith without works is dead (James 2:26); this is because faith gives birth to good works, and faith in Christ cannot exist without good works accompanying shortly thereafter. It is all part of the masterpiece the God is molding us into. This "good works" thing is indeed plural and not a one time event or thing. That is why the Apostle Paul writes "so that we would walk in them," because it is a continuous action and lifestyle choice, just as walking is continuous. Our conversations and lives should be a continuous strand of good works. When we choose Christ, we choose a lifestyle, we choose to do good works, and we choose to become smaller as Christ becomes bigger. Today as you go about your day, focus on serving others with your kindness, love, and joy. When you serve others with good works, you are ultimately serving God. God has prepared a life for you far greater than you can imagine or dream, and all you have to do is let him perfect His masterpiece (you). :)
