Gazing Instead of Going

August 31, 2016

"After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.  They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.  'Men of Galilee,' they said, 'why do you stand here looking into the sky?  This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.'"  Acts 1:9-11

These past two days, we have been talking about living by the power of the Holy Spirit, and today is going to be no different.  I think God might be trying to tell us something very clearly this year, and He is giving us multiple chances to get it!  So don't miss what He is telling you.  No doubt after almost two years of ministry with Jesus, it had to be scary, thinking that they were commanded to do what Jesus had been doing, but now without Him.  No doubt they stood there, gazing up to heaven, thinking, how was that going to happen?  Like Jesus said it would; by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Because of the Holy Spirit, living in them, the physical presence of Jesus was no longer necessary.  Going and making disciples was necessary and would only be accomplished as the disciples went in the Power and Reliance on the Holy Spirit.  The same Spirit that has been deposited in each one of us who have asked Jesus to forgive us of our sins, and confess that He is the LORD of our lives.  Maybe you are looking up like the disciples, wondering what is this all about, and what happens next.  If you are a Jesus follower, then through the Holy Spirit, like Jesus, you are called to GO and be a disciple (radical follower of Jesus Christ) who makes disciples.  If you are not, then you need to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins (all the things, good and bad you do and have done for yourself.  Yes, we do good things with selfish motives, and that doesn't count - the Bible calls that sin).  Then ask Him to become the Master of your life, and to make you born again (to make you a brand new person with a new start to life; a life now lived following Jesus, loving Him and serving others).  If you have not done this, you are still guilty before God because of your sins.  For the Jesus followers reading this, Don't Gaze up any longer, but Go and Make Disciples.  Jesus is with you, and in you!
