Jealous Heart

September 20, 2016

Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the sadducees, were filled with jealousy.  They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.  Acts 5:17-18 (NIV)

Notice the apostles weren't filled with jealousy, but the religious leaders of their day were.  The religious leaders became jealous of all the attention they were getting as they healed and taught in Jesus' name.  They desired that for themselves, and didn't like missing out on the recognition they craved.  Jealousy is the decision to look at someone else and compare our current circumstances, physical appearances, possessions, and friendships with theirs.  At the heart of jealousy, for the believer, is the idea, I'm not happy with where God currently has me, what He has given me, and who He has made me to be.  It is saying, "God, I think you could have done better with me and for me."  But God created us for a specific purpose and has planned every detail of our lives in order to accomplish His will.  Don't walk in jealousy concerning who you are and where you presently are in life, but walk in contentment, knowing God has and is continuing to orchestrate every area of your life for His Glory and your good!  When we allow jealousy to dwell in our hearts, we will make bad decisions, just like the religious leaders did by arresting the disciples.  Jealousy is a very selfish attitude that only looks at what we don't possess, instead of what we do.  There is no room in the life of God's children for jealousy.  If you have been walking in jealousy ask God for forgiveness.  Then you will be able to celebrate the blessings he has given others, and the blessings He has given to you!
