Acts 8:18-23- When Simon saw that the Spirit was given when the apostles laid their hands on people, he offered them money to buy this power. “Let me have this power, too,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit!” But Peter replied, “May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God.
So many times, we ask for things from God that are asked for in the wrong way or for our own benefit and not for the Will of God. Anything that comes from God is not something that can be bought. God desires a relationship with us and wants us to love Him for who He is and for what His son Jesus Christ did for us. God’s love for us is unconditional and He wants us to love Him and others the same way. Relationship with God is a powerful thing because not only is He with us but He is also in us. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior, we receive the Holy Spirit who takes up residence in our hearts. There is power in the name of Jesus, and a real, meaningful relationship with Him gives us power over the enemy and the world that once held us captive. There is no greater name than the name of Jesus and a relationship with Him is life saving.
