Quiet Conscience?

However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man. Acts 24:14-16 (NIV)

Paul is saying these things in front of a Roman Governor named Felix. Felix was appointed Roman Governor of Judea and served between 52-58AD. Felix was a real man in real history - you can check this out from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonius_Felix. Whenever the Bible mentions people and places, they are real. There is nowhere in the Bible that is imaginary or made up. As in this case, the account you read is based on actual people, in an actual place, during an actual time. Since the Bible is accurate concerning areas of history, we shouldn't think that it would be inaccurate concerning spiritual and eternal matters. When the Bible records Paul saying that there will be a resurrection of both the saved and lost, we should believe this. Because our lives have eternal consequences for us and others, we should adopt Paul’s strategy for living - Keeping his “conscious clear before God and man.” Paul is saying that He has chosen to live a life of loving God and others. Would you like a life where your conscious troubles you less? Then ask Jesus to help you love Him through obedience and others through putting them before yourself. You won’t do this perfectly, but if you perfectly desire this, you will see growth! This week, Follow the Holy Spirit’s leading and Look for ways to Love others better than yourself and watch how your conscience will become quieter.
