"Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business." James 1:9-11 (NIV)
Self-esteem is how a person sees themselves. How you see yourself is influenced by many factors. How you interpret the way others treat you, what people say about you, and what you say about yourself. There are more than the ones mentioned, but you get the idea. There is only one truth about who you really are and not many. Just like you don’t have different names, you do not have different worths and values. You have only one value and it is not determined by people, because it has already been set by Jesus. An objects worth is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it, rather than what the object believes about itself (self-esteem). And once paid for, its value is set. In your case, Jesus paid for you with His costly blood on the cross. There is no value you can put on Jesus’ life, because He is of infinite worth; His value is infinite (no monetary value can be enough). Since the price that Jesus paid for you was infinite, you are also of infinite worth. There is no price tag big enough for you! You are worth a number that can’t be calculated. A price Jesus was willing to pay for you - His Life! Because you have been bought and your value has been set, don’t let anything or anyone try to change the price tag Jesus has placed on you. It has been written with His blood and is eternal - It cannot be changed! Don’t take pride in what other people say or don’t say about you, take pride in the reality that your worth is priceless! When you are tempted to see yourself in a negative or positive light apart from Jesus’ sacrifice, remember, you are more valuable to Him than His own life.
