Be You

"Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life." Galatians 6:4-5 (MSG)

The Bible is very clear that we are created for a very distinct purpose and only we can accomplish it. Since we are all shaped by God and did not choose our own attributes and talents, we shouldn't be impressed with ourselves when we do good or even great things. Nor should we mourn the realities of what we don't have that we wish we did.

Our response should be thankfulness to God for what we have and who we are. There is no place for comparing ourselves to others for their lack or their abundance. Since they too were created uniquely by God for His intended purpose, it is wrong for us to judge them, because God is their creator. And since they are His creation, to judge them is to wrongly judge His work, and to question His wisdom.

The Lord's plan is continually unfolding, and we need to be grateful that He has included and invited us to be a part. We also should to look to others and thank God for them instead of criticizing or being jealous over God's work concerning them. When this happens, we will become the very person God created us to be. We won't get caught up in pride or jealousy, just thankfulness and joy.

Write a list of five things about yourself today that you are grateful to God for and thank Him! If you want extra-credit, pray and ask God to show you someone who might need encouraging. Then write down five things about them that you are grateful for and share it with them! If you do this, you will be fulfilling God's plan for your life and encouraging them to join His.
