Isaiah 2:12-The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled).
We all have put ourselves first at some point in our lives. Wanted to achieve something and receive praise for it or noticed for something we overcame and accomplished. Sometimes we just need a moment to ourselves, and there is nothing wrong with that. I believe it's admirable to be ambitious, but when that ambition for self-glorification becomes your primary focus, or you treat it as your purpose, it becomes a problem. When we desire to see ourselves high and lifted up, we are failing to serve the Lord. We are putting our image above His. We have a habit of wanting to make ourselves happy versus pleasing God. Feeding our pride creates a high horse that we will soon fall off of. Those that exalt themselves will be humbled. We build on our own glorify all the time and don't even realize it. If we had that boyfriend or that girlfriend, we would be seen by more people. If I drove that car or lived in that house. If I could build on my image or my status, it would get me recognized by the world more. What about the boyfriend or girlfriend God wants for you or the job he wants you to have regardless of money. When we choose our way over God’s, we are showing a level of pride. Exalt yourself, and you will be humbled, humble yourself, and your will be exalted. Put God first, and He will supply you with more blessings that you could ever imagine. What are you proud of? God's work or your own? But after all isn't all of it His.
