Not The End
"The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health." Psalm 41:3 (ESV)
Have you ever asked God to heal someone who was very sick? Maybe you prayed for healing for yourself because of a really bad cold or perhaps it was something more serious like a loved one being diagnosed with cancer. Most of us have experienced some sort of loss due to sickness, cancer, heart disease, or maybe even old age. What do you tell your friends who lose someone close? Why didn’t God heal them?
King David once prayed, fasted, and slept outside on the ground for 7 days pleading with God to heal his son, who was just a baby, but the boy died. What would your reaction be? I cannot imagine the overwhelming grief that David felt when his servants told him that his son was gone.
Psalm 41:3 tells us that God sustains those who serve him when they are sick, and restores them to full health, and yet we still experience loss and death. God is eternal and he sent us his son Jesus so that through him we can be sustained in the midst of all the sickness, disease, and grief that we have to endure while we are on this Earth, because we know that death is not the end. When the servants told David his son was dead he got up off the ground, washed himself, changed his clothes, and he went and worshiped God. David’s example in (2 Samuel 12) shows us that although God didn’t heal his son David knew God would be there to get him through this terrible time. Remember, Jesus is coming back and when he does “He will wipe away all our tears, and there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain. All of these things will be gone forever.” (Rev 21:4)
