Lose the Excuses

Exodus 4:10-14-Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.

Whether or not Moses was a good speaker isn’t important, but when God says He is going to use you there is no reason to make excuses. There is no one greater than our God, and if He says He is going to use you, you can trust in that. Moses had little faith at that moment. Sometimes it’s just easier for us to make excuses too. Hey, God, I think this situation maybe a little too harsh for me, so you should use someone else. Sometimes we get asked to pray out loud, and we wish they would have asked someone else. Or a friend invited us to church or youth group and we say, “I’m sick,” or “I have homework.” Excuses don’t lead us closer to God. He wants to use us all, and through Him all things are possible. I had a friend that used to tell me all the time, “Excuses are the nails that build a house of failure.” Being a Christian can be awkward at times, but God equips us to be a light for Him in those moments, not to make excuses and find a way out. Maybe is uncomfortable or a stretch for you to go to an edge meeting every week or difficult for you to pray in front of others, but God is looking to use you not embarrass you. He knew about you even before you were a thought to your mom and dad. He knows the number of hairs that are on your head. He knows what you are capable of. Don’t be someone who makes excuses. God is with you, He cares for you, and He is bigger than our excuses. We can walk with Him in boldness because He has given us the ability to do all things through Him. Don’t let excuses control the plans that God has for you.
