More Than Beauty
"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:30 NASB
When it comes to dating I certainly did not do myself any favors with decisions I made throughout high-school and even through college. I was a “serial dater” one relationship to the next leaving a trail of hurt feelings, anger, and a reputation of being something I did not want to be. I was not careful with who I made myself available too and I put myself in situations where I had no chance of maintaining my spiritual integrity. After a broken engagement to a girl I had been with for several years I realized that I had to take a step back and reevaluate my dating priorities.
I had my dating priorities established in the order much like Proverbs 31:30. I looked for a girl with charm and beauty first, then if she had a relationship with Jesus it was like a bonus. That was my first big mistake! Charm and beauty only go as far as your relationship with Jesus. I don’t care how pretty a girl is or how handsome a guy is if they do not have Jesus as their #1 priority your dating relationships will always have struggles. Relationships are HARD and when I was younger I was not ready for the commitments that are required to have a healthy Godly relationship.
Fast forward to today and I have a wife that loves Jesus and me, and always in that order. I do not make her complete, Jesus does. I have hurt her feelings and wronged her, Jesus hasn’t. I have been selfish and made mistakes and she forgives me, because Jesus said to forgive. We do not hold grudges and we work together as partners moving towards the same goal.
God has a plan for us and if that plan involves marriage then we should follow his guidelines for a healthy relationship. Today read Proverbs 31:10-31 and get a better understanding of what God has in store for us.
