Could You Do It?
Proverbs 28:6-Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich.
This verse affirms that honest poverty is better than dishonest wealth. People will be dishonest to gain wealth and others will be honest with what they have. Some will give the shirt off their back with nothing else to put on. Whether rich or poor we are called, to be honest, and content with what we have. We have much to be thankful for, running water, hot shower, clothes, shoes, pets, warm bed, cell phone, television, and maybe a car. Think about every single thing that you have. If Jesus said to you leave everything and follow me. Could you do it? You don’t get to take anything with you just the clothes that your wearing. Could you do it? I think too often we find our contentment in our things and our stuff, rather than in Christ. What’s easier for you to do, turn the tv on or open your Bible? Ouch! I don’t know about you, but that makes me check myself. Contentment in Christ is the willingness and freedom to rest in Christ continually. He is our happiness, our fulfillment, and our satisfaction. Are you satisfied in only pursuing Him? He will provide for you. Matthew 6:26 says, “Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are?” He knows your every need; you are so valuable to Him. Be content in Him.
