"I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth." 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT)
What advice would you give to a young pastor? The wise Apostle Paul told a young pastor named Timothy to "First of all" - PRAY. By saying "First of all," Paul is saying, "The most important thing." Why is praying so important to God? When we pray we are partnering with God to supernaturally change the hearts of people who are lost.
If you are a Jesus Follower, someone was crying out to God on your behalf. Because someone took the time to pray, God did a work in your heart through the Holy Spirit to bring you to Himself. Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection paid the price and provided the way for salvation, but the prayer's of the saints, through the Spirit, help awaken hearts to this truth (2 Corinthians 1:11). If prayers were ineffective, Paul wouldn't place such a high priority on them in His letter to Timothy.
So who are you "First of all" praying for? Who is God putting on your heart? Pray for the Holy Spirit to give them spiritual ears to hear and eyes to see. Pray for the Holy Spirit to convince and convict them of their sins and their need for Jesus. God desires ALL to be saved because He loves ALL and Jesus died for ALL. Pray and join Him in bringing the lost from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light.
