Into The Deep
Psalm 88:1-2-Lord, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you. May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry.
So many times, I feel our faith is very shallow. We pray prayers like, God would you please help me pass this test, or, God please help me get a girlfriend. We have received salvation and recognize that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but instead of appreciating His sacrifice, we demand more. We always are hoping that He will answer our prayers the way we want them to be answered; never asking Him what it is that He wants to do with our lives. Sometimes the greatest gift you can receive is a unanswered pray. Our shallowness fails to realize the depth and wisdom of God. Your unanswered prayer may be answered by a prayer that you never prayed because God had so much more in store for you than you could ever imagine. Don’t limit God to only the answers you want. He has so much more for you. Let Him define your life, include His opinion and His will in your prayers. Often in life we are shallow, but God gives us depth. His answers are always best for our lives. We may not always be able to recognize the answer or understand why He would answer a prayer a certain way. He holds the keys to life and death and His will is greatest for our lives. You may not pass that test but the Holy Spirit will prompt you to study next time so you are prepared. You may not get that girlfriend or boyfriend that you thought was the greatest thing that could ever happen to you. God knows what He is doing and He is preparing the perfect someone for you. The greatest thing that we could ever do is follow God with heart, soul, mind, and strength. Submission to His authority makes His answers more recognizable in our lives and doing things His way is the best way.
He is love, and He is peace, and He is joy, and He wants to give you depth. We have all swam in the shallow end of the pool on our own long enough. Let God take your hand and teach you how to swim in the deep end of the pool. He provides depth and that is something we can’t do on are own.
