“One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.
‘God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.’”
Matthew 5:1-10 (NLT)
If you ever want to know the kind of life Jesus values and blesses, look no further than the previous lines you just read. In hopes of making this simpler for you, I will break down this blessed life (a life God provides for, gives strength to, and pours joy over) according to each of the Beatitudes. Simply, the way our ATTITUDES should BE. Did you get that…
You are Blessed when:
Those who are POOR (in spirit) and realize your need for Him - When we realize there is nothing in us or any good we can do that can get us into heaven apart from the Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, than we can confess and be saved and become citizens of the Kingdom.
Those who MOURN - When we realize our brokenness and sin and the brokenness and sin of the world, the right response should be Godly sadness that leads to confession. When we go to God with this attitude, he comes near to us and forgives our sins, and we are comforted (relieved).
Those who are HUMBLE - When we recognize life is not about us and live for God and others, He will trust us with the things of this world to use to Glorify Him and bless others.
Those who HUNGER & THIRST for JUSTICE - When we are committed to doing what is right before God and towards others, we will experience a fullness and spiritual satisfaction that will keep us strong. Because of this, our hunger for fleshly things will decrease.
Those who are MERCIFUL - When we give people what we desire from others when we do wrong to them (which is grace and forgiveness), but instead, we really deserve justice and punishment, God extends to us mercy in return.
Those whose hearts are PURE - When we live Pure lives (living a life of avoiding sin and doing good out of sincere motives - others best interests and God’s glory), it gives us clarity to see God working in us and around us. Sinful lives fog our vision and we have trouble recognizing God’s working in our midst.
Those who work for PEACE - When we live to establish peace between God and others by living lives that show Jesus off and then capitalize on the moments God provides to tell them His Good News, we are acting just like Jesus. Jesus came as God’s Son, to rescue God’s lost children.
Those who are PERSECUTED for doing RIGHT - When we are mistreated because we are living lives for Jesus, then we are to celebrate, because that is what happened to Jesus. We don’t celebrate because we like to be mistreated, but because people recognize His life in ours, which means our home will be with Him in His Kingdom forever!
Ask Jesus to help you live by these Attitudes and Be Blessed!
