A Good Time to Pray

September 12, 2017

Matthew 6:5-10- “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus is always teaching us, but often we miss it because we aren’t focused on Him alone. In this passage, He is teaching us how to pray. We have to keep in mind that it is not a formula, but a cry from our heart. A conversation with a great friend about what is in your heart. With that being said, what are you praying for? Maybe I should have asked this question first. Are you praying? Hopefully, you are by your bed, in your car, at your desk, before your meals, with your friends, after your practice, in the shower, and in your room. I could keep going, but I think you get it. It’s always a good time prayer. That may sound crazy,  but that’s because we believe that every time we pray we have to stop and close our eyes and bow our heads and start talking. There is a need and a time for that prayer. Other times we don’t have to say a word or close our eyes, but just be still and focus on God. We don’t always have to do the talking. I hear God best when I’m saying nothing at all.

Don’t pray in public with many words to receive the applause of men, but instead spend time with God in private so that He may give you the words to speak in public. Above all else seek Him in private because He is worth following and loving because of His sacrifice for us. We don’t pray to benefit ourselves, but we pray because we desire and treasure our time with Christ. We have a relationship with the savior of the universe. Nothing I could say could ever replace or compare to your prayer time with God. So right now where you are spend time talking to God or just being still in His presence. It’s always a good time to pray.
