Matthew 8:20-22- Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
The cost of following Jesus is EVERYTHING. What are you holding back from God? I would say our first answer would be that we aren’t holding anything back from Him. Let me ask you in this way. Are you doing things that honor God on Friday and Saturday night? I hear lots of people say I’m a Christian, but when people look at your life do they see a Christ-like life?
I had a young man tell me today that he encouraged a classmate to change for Jesus. The sad thing was, the classmate he was encouraging considers himself to be a Christian. His answer was achieving perfection is impossible so why even try to pursue what is right.
First of all, that is shallow and taking the easy way out. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Living for Jesus is not easy, and yes the cost is everything (your life), but God is not asking anyone to be perfect. He is the only one that is perfect, and our lives are to be surrendered to live for Him so that His perfection may be seen in us.
Jesus is not being seen in your life when you choose to chug that beer on Saturday night at that party. You are not living for Jesus when you choose to have sex because everyone else is doing it. You don’t have to be perfect to live for Jesus, but there is no in between, you are either all in for Jesus or not at all.
Yes, living for Jesus means surrendering everything, but giving everything to Jesus doesn’t mean living a boring life. It means being set free so that His perfection may be seen in your life, and living life for Jesus is more than worth it.
