Are You Aware of Jesus?
“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, ‘I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven. But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’” Matthew 8:10-12 (NLT)
What an amazing statement by Jesus! “Those for whom the Kingdom was prepared (sons - NKJV) - will be thrown into outer darkness…” This statement comes on the heels of a Roman guard (Non-Jewish, religious person) asking Jesus to heal his servant. Jesus responds to this man’s request and insightful words (Matthew 8:5-9) with how amazed He was at the guard’s faith and understanding of Jesus' authority and power.
This guard had observed Jesus from afar and had only known of Israel’s Messiah from what he had heard from other observers. But the very people of Israel who grew up reading about the coming savior in their Old Testament writings, and singing songs about their great future King in the Psalms, didn’t even recognize Him when he appeared in their midst as a man.
And that’s the scary part. I know there are some who are reading this and you have been to church, you may go to youth group, have been to retreats or other church events, but you have failed to recognize and worship Jesus in your midst. You are still in darkness and Jesus wants to you to come to Him to receive the Light of Eternal Life.
The Kingdom of God is near you through the people of Jesus who love you and share Jesus with you. Jesus is near you, NOW, as you read these very words. He so desires for you to repent and turn from living life your way, apart from Him. He wants you to stop going through the motions and trying to fit in, and simply fall into His love, forgiveness and grace. Pray this prayer: Lord Jesus, forgive me for a life of sin and separation from you. I need you and I ask for your forgiveness and to make me a brand new person. Wash me from head to toe and give me a new heart that loves you and loves others. I thank you for dying on the cross in my place and I ask all this in your Name. Amen!
If you prayed that prayer, the Bible says that all of heaven has taken notice and the angels with God are rejoicing and your name has been written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Because of what Jesus has done, your eternal home will be with Jesus forever and ever.
