Philippians 1:28-30-without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
Paul, you're killing us, man! You tell us we should not only believe in Jesus Christ but also be willing to suffer for Him as well. I’m cool with suffering for my sake, and even then I don’t always like that. Paul is telling us to hurt for someone else other than ourselves. Suffer for Jesus Christ the one who gave His life to save everyone, but not everyone chooses Christ.
Suffering for Christ is not a new thing, people before us suffered for the sake of Christ by facing the same struggles we face and more. We can’t assume that when we go through hardship for the light of Christ to be seen that we are the only one ever to face something like this before. No, the truth is that someone has already gone through what you are going through and they made it through and you will too. Someone after you will go through the same suffering and they will make it through. When you suffer for the sake of Christ, don’t give in or give up because you carry the hope of Jesus around inside of you. So no matter what you face, you have already won because you have chosen to live for Jesus and suffer for Him. Our momentary troubles are far outweighed by the victory we have in Jesus. Lord help us understand today that even when we suffer for Your sake, here on earth, that our reward is in Heaven. There is no greater reward.
