In Your Way
Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me. - Philippians 2:28-30 (NIV)
The world honors those who are beautiful, intelligent, rich, and powerful. Who should the church honor? Paul makes it clear that we should honor those who give their lives for the sake of Christ. Being thankful for the people that go and do what we are unable to do ourselves. I want you to know today that you are valuable. Valuable in the eyes of Christ, and that’s more important than any compliment that we could get from someone about our looks, our talents, or our interests. Going out of your way for the sake of Christ will not get you the glory and popularity of the world, but your victory and reward is in Heaven.
I’m not asking you to go out of your way for Jesus because I believe that God is putting opportunities right in front of you. There is no need to go out of your way when God has set people in your way. I don’t mean in your way as a problem, but you need to see those people as ministry opportunities and ask God why He has placed those people in your life. Don’t look to honor and receive praise from the crowd, but instead live your life to honor God.
Prayer: Father, help me to see and recognize what is truly valuable to You. May I love the people You have placed before me and not see them as problems to be overcome. Thank You for not giving up on me and promising to finish the work in me that You have begun. In Jesus Name. Amen!
