Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. - Philippians 3:2 (NIV)
It’s easy for us to place value on human effort more than internal faith. We like to focus on physical standards and not a spiritual measure. God values the attitude of your heart above all else. We shouldn't judge people’s spirituality based on their fulfillment of duties. Salvation is free, so don’t feel like you have to satisfy God by working relentlessly for Him.
The point is we can’t begin to live for Jesus just by inserting a higher moral standard in our lives and then criticize all other people who don't meet that standard. Those are the evildoers, the mutilators of the flesh, and if we live that way we are causing more people to turn away from Christ than we are to come to know Him. Do you look down your nose at people’s sin or do you hurt for them? Does your heart break with compassion for them because you have a love of Christ in your heart and want them to experience it as well?
God fill my heart with compassion for those who are lost in sin and let my life be inviting to them because of your love in me. Lord your love in my life is my standard and not morality. Help me not to mutilate my own flesh in times of weakness, but instead extend your love for all to see. IN JESUS NAME AMEN.
