Don't Look Back

“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:12-14. (NLT)

How good are you at forgetting? It’s hard to forget, especially the things we regret. And if we happen to forget, other’s seem to have better memories about our failures than we do and are good at reminding us.

The passionate and wise Apostle Paul gives us some insight into moving forward and pushing through past failures and letdown. FORGET! Don’t dwell on what you did yesterday, because of Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, your eternity is secure. He has made you a brand new creature and your yesterdays will not be your tomorrows.

Don’t be defined by what you have done, but by what Jesus did in your place. Erasing all of your past, present and future sins with just one drop of His blood on the cross of Calvary.

He doesn’t dwell on your past failures, and neither should you. If He has removed your guilt, then why do you still feel guilty. It may be because you are trying to move forward by looking back.

Look to Jesus, the one who saved you and sanctified (cleansed & set you apart) you for Himself. He loves you and sees you as faultless. Look forward to the cross and give yourself over to it, dying daily to self and living fully in the newness of His Life.

Your past does not define you, so stop looking back there. Your present standing with God as his child, holy & righteous, beloved and saint are your current and eternal positions in Christ.

Press on! You have been called to a heavenly calling - living with Jesus, as his beloved, today and forever!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, forgive me when I have dwelt on my past sins and not on your grace and forgiveness given through the cross. Help me to see myself like you see me. Forgiven, spotless, and loved unconditionally. Help me also to overlook and forgive failure in others the same way you do in me. In Jesus Name. Amen!
