Made To Be a Gift
“Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.” Philippians 4:14-18 (ESV)
As true followers of Christ, we can do ALL things through Him and Him alone, as I'm sure we have all heard the verse Philippians 4:13. But also as Christ followers, we are to share one another's burdens and help our fellow brothers and sisters.
This passage tells us that not all Christians are going to carry other's troubles and help those in need, but those who do are pleasing to God. Paul talks about how He doesn't seek the gift itself but the fruit. The fruit you bear shows your character and who you are in the Lord. Good fruit comes from a good tree with a good foundation, so those with a solid foundation, found in Christ, will bear the fruit that is pleasing to God. We are called to build one another up with our words and actions, showing those who do and do not know God just how much He loves them.
We are all part of the body of Christ and each of you have different characteristics and attributes that God hand-crafted for you in order to reach people of all types. So ask God today to help you identify those areas in your life that you are holding back. Ask him to work through you to bear good fruit to those who need a gift, not from you, but from God.
Lord, Help me to recognize the burdens and needs of others and to do something to help. Make the truth that You created me specifically to be fruitful in loving and serving others a reality in my life. In Jesus Name. Amen!
