"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
"Don't worry about anything..." You might say in response, "Thanks, Paul, that's easier said than done." It's so much easier to worry than it is to pray. Prayer takes an intentional move on our part to align our hearts and minds to look past circumstances and probabilities to Jesus and His faithfulness.
Paul doesn't just say pray but gives some simple guidance on prayer. He says no request is too small or unimportant. "Pray about everything." Tell Him your true desires and disappointments. Don't hold back; He can handle it. His love won't change for you no matter what you share from your heart.
The result of talking to God like this on a regular basis will be peace in your hearts knowing He has heard you and is working on your behalf in all things.
Knowing you are heard and cared for because you are regularly talking (praying) with Jesus, will protect you from making foolish and rash decisions. It will keep you from operating from fear and choosing the path of self and sin to relieve that fear.
Knowing Jesus has "got you" will give you the strength to resist self and sin and walk with a confidence and awareness of God's love for you. When you believe in God's love for you, your heart will be filled and will allow His love to overflow toward others.
Lord Jesus forgive me when I worry and lose sight of your love and goodness toward me. Help me to understand your care for me in a more significant way and to move into greater depth of relationship with you. May your love overflow in my life so others can experience you through me. In Jesus Name. Amen!
