“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?”— James 2:14 (NIV)
One day during the summer my dad asked me to mow the lawn while he was at work. Well a few hours went by and the lawn was still not cut. My dad came home and said to me, “Son, you can fill the lawnmower up with gas, but if you don’t take it out on the lawn, then it has no purpose.” This is very similar to the struggles of our faith. How often are we being filled by God’s word and actually putting it into practice?
As followers of Christ, if we are constantly being filled but never pour out, we have now come into a place of comfort, or a place where we have stopped growing. when we stop growing in God’s Word it is a very dangerous time. However, by pouring out unto others, we ourselves are not only allowing others to grow in the body of Christ, but we ourselves. For example, if you have a pitcher full of water but never pour out any for thirsty people, what good does it do? Pour out to those who are thirsty for Christ and remember to pour out to those who are thirsty for the everlasting life that Christ has for us.
Lord Jesus, help me to spend time in your presence being filled up so that I can allow your life and love to be poured out. Amen!
