Jesus Doesn't Want You To Doubt

"And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. 1 John 5:11-13 (NLT)

Anyone who has come to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior has struggled, at some point, with whether or not they were really saved. For some, this can be a fleeting thought, and for others, it can cause anxiety and sleepless nights. Jesus doesn’t want His children to live in doubt and fear about their salvation. He wants His children to KNOW that they are His, and to walk in the confidence and peace that possessing that knowledge produces.

In my early twenties, I would struggle, from time to time with if I was saved or not. I struggled because many times my thoughts and actions were still the same from before I gave my life to Jesus. When this would happen I would wonder, “Did I really ask Jesus to forgive me? Did I really receive the Holy Spirit? Am a really a new person or am I still the same? When I die, will I really go to heaven?”

And that’s the same for many of you reading this. You're simply asking in one way or the other, “Is my salvation REAL?”

I will never forget, at a church service during those years, and yes I said years (this was about a 2 year struggle for me), I felt lead to go the altar and ask for prayer. I told my pastor what I was struggling with, and he simply said, “If you weren’t saved, you wouldn’t worry about it. Only saved people worry about their salvation.”

And it hit me - before I was saved, I never once worried about my salvation. I didn’t even know what salvation was. After his counsel and prayer at the altar that day, I haven’t fretted concerning my salvation the same way again.

What about you? Do you worry if you are saved? That's a good thing. People who haven't given their lives to Jesus don't worry about such things. Also, simply worrying about whether you are saved or not presumes you want to be saved. If you want to be saved, Jesus won't turn away anyone who wants to receive Him as Lord and Savior, and you are no different.

Today nail down the reality that you are saved in your heart by praying the following:

Lord Jesus, I am tired of worrying about whether I am truly saved or not. Today I acknowledge once and for all that I desire for you to be my Lord and my God! I confess that I am a sinner in need of your salvation. I thank you for dying on the cross for my sins and with Your grace choose to live the rest of my days on this earth for You and with You. Amen.
