"From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Matthew 4:17 (NLT)
First lets establish what Godly Sorrow & Repentance is: Godly sorrow is understanding that our brokeness (all the wrong we do) is sin and turning from our present way of life to Jesus and His way of life. Simply put, You won't live the same way.
Jesus preached, from His earliest messages, that “turning from” (repenting) and “turning to” (receiving salvation) Jesus is the way to receive New Life and become a citizen of heaven. If you have done this, you have looked at your old WAY of living, apart from Jesus and the brokenness of your life (sin), and felt genuine regret and sorrow. Not only did you feel those things, but you turned your back to your old way of living. You said to yourself something like, “I don’t want to live like this anymore. I’m tired of trying to do life my way. Jesus forgive me for all of the terrible things I have done, and for doing life without you. I believe you died on the cross for me so I could have Life here on earth and eternal life with you forever."
John 16:8 says talking about the work of the Holy Spirit of God in people's lives, "And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment." (NLT).
This verse tells us that the work of the Holy Spirit is to reveal to us our sinfulness before a Good and Holy Savior. A Savior who made Himself a sinless sacrifice and took our death so we could be declared innocent. The only way we can recognize and acknowledge we are sinners who need the forgiveness offered in Jesus is if the Holy Spirit shows us.
So, if you have repented (your desires, thoughts, and life are no longer the same as they were), then you can know that you have responded to the Holy Spirit's work in your life and not your own. You Can know you are a brand new creation (2 Corninthians 5:17).
Because a new life in Jesus is a growth journey, you don't necessily lose all of your wrong desires and actions, but you do gain new ones. Since God gives you a new heart at salvation, you now desire to love and serve the risen King. You Are New.
If you have become new creation in Jesus, then thank Him. If you have not done the things mentioned in this devo, then now is your chance. Jesus offers you forgiveness and eternal life.
Prayer the following prayer to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior:
Lord Jesus, I believe you came to live and then die as a sacrifice for my sins. I ask you to forgive me for all the sins I have commited and make me clean. by your love and power, make me a new creation so that I may follow you all the rest of my days. Thank you for loving me and dying for me so that I may have everlasting life. Amen
