I Got Joy

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. - 1 Peter 1:8 (NLT)

“One of the most interesting and remarkable things Christians learn is that laughter does not exclude weeping. Christian joy is not an escape from sorrow. Pain and hardship still come, but they are unable to drive out the happiness of the redeemed.”

- Eugene Peterson

Before I chose Christ, He chose me. Joy is embedded in my mind and tattooed on my heart. My victory is in being redeemed. I can’t see Him, but I see Him. I can’t hear Him, but I listen to Him. I can’t taste or feel Him, but His sweetness and gentle touch are forever present. We don’t see because we are unwilling to seek and we don’t feel because our love is far from Him. When we dive into the depths of Christ are senses come alive as we aline with His will.

When I gain Christ, I know there will be times that I stretch my hands towards heaven and rest in happiness and other times my hands will reach towards the sky in pain as though I will never smile again. Below the happiness and the pain lays Joy. It can’t be moved. It’s a product of choosing to walk in obedience and the abundant life of Christ. Christianity is not my rescue from all that is harmful, but instead, it’s my joy that in all things I can trust God and know I have been redeemed.

Through the trials I continue to sow seed into the things of God and Joy is birthed in every crop. The winds and the waves may beat and bend the crops of my life, but below the surface, joy has taken root. I rejoice with a glorious and inexpressible joy.

In all things today the joy of the Lord is my strength. When Jesus Got me, I got joy. Amen.
