“O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you! You show unfailing love to thousands, but you also bring the consequences of one generation’s sin upon the next. You are the great and powerful God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Jeremiah 32:17-18
Life is hard, and people are cruel, and by the way, we are "people." If you look at the world without a faithful and loving God who stands by your side, things can appear downright scary. If there is no God, then all you have to depend on is you and all your limitations and weaknesses. And if you look to others, they too have limitations and weaknesses.
Who can you really depend on? Is there anyone one you know who can overcome all the trouble and challenges this world can throw at a them? Of course not, but there is ONE - "O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and the earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!"
Like the prophet Jeremiah did, I encourage you to cast all your anxiety and concerns on Him. Because we have a God who loves us and is for us, when life gets hard and heavy, He is strong and can lift the weight of this life off of us and provide rest for our souls.
That's exactly what Jesus meant when He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:28-29.
Jesus promises us that when life becomes burdensome (heavy and overwhelming) to go to Him (call out to Him in prayer) and He will lift the heaviness of your situation because "Nothing is too hard for You (Him)." [Emphasis mine].
What is weighing you down today? Confess it to Jesus in prayer and stop trying to lift it yourself and ask the One with the truly strong arms to lift it for you.
Lord Jesus, forgive me when I trust in my own strength and even the strength of others over you. Help me to give up trying to lift the heaviness on my own and to simply give up and trust in You and Your strength instead. Amen.
