The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 (NLT)
I Don't mean to be gross, but if you have ever seen a limb separate from the body it belongs to, usually in TV or the movies, there is nothing attractive about it. An unattached arm or leg is never appealing. Any limb removed from the body eventually loses it's lifeblood and dies.
The Apostle Paul teaches that the body of Christ is made of many independent parts that make one whole. When the limbs and parts are attached, they remain alive and healthy. This is also true of us, who are members of the body of Christ. When we stay connected to the church, (other brothers and sisters in Jesus) we remain alive and healthy. When we allow ourselves to be detached from the church, we will suffer spiritually because we are detached from our life-blood.
Remember, you belong to a whole and were not created to be alone or detached. Next time you are tempted to withdraw and separate, remember you need others in order to thrive and others need you just the same. It's always better with you!
Lord Jesus, forgive me when I have abandoned my fellow brothers and sisters. Help me to remember that you created me to be part of a family. Help me not to listen to the voice that tempts me to go it alone, but to listen to your voice that encourages me to gather and grow.
