Cut It Off

Matthew 5:29-30- If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

This particular passage of scripture in Matthew is directly speaking to lust and adultery but gives a humbling example of the result of sin. The result of sin is death, so it would be better to lose a body part than to be separated from God forever. So many times I feel that we don’t fully understand that if we are living in sin that leads to death and that death is in hell. Hell is FOREVER. That's not “oh I'm tired of this, and I would like to get out of here now.” There is no escaping hell once you are there. I’m not trying to scare you all, but that should be sobering. If you are living in sin, it’s time to cut it off. That one thing that you have been struggling with for awhile now. Today is the day to cut it off. The partying, the premarital sex, the gossip, the lying, whatever it is. It’s time to cut it off. Say no and end the relationship, and start focusing on your relationship with God. I have learned in my life if you play with fire, you get burned.

We can’t put ourselves in positions and places where we are tempted to sin because in those situations we usually give in and sin. Cut it off, remove it from your life and start a new chapter. Start heading in a different direction. You are better without it because with it the end is death. I’m praying for you today, which this is the day you decide to cut it off. Turn away from the thing that is causing you to stumbling. God give these students the strength to remove the current pattern in their lives that is leaving them broken and in pain. The one thing that is leaving them saying why did I do that. Today is the day God, let them know you love them and you are there for them to fall into as they cut that sin out of their life.

Lord Jesus, give me the strength to walk away from the sin that has been hurting me and my relationship with you and others. Amen
