“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1
Do you ever feel like you’re being pulled away from God?
Worldly pleasures and tasks that draw away from God have always been present ever since sin first entered this world. It is easy to spot out the big things that pull us away from the Lord, but what about the subtler ones that act as little distractions?
Distractions are everywhere in this world and come in a huge variety. They can literally be anything from your cell phone, to relationships, or even school. These distractions may seem harmless because they are not yet sin, but they could be considered a gateway to sin. No, these things don’t always lead to sin but they can if we allow them to weigh us down and prevent us from reaching where God has called us to be. That is why in Hebrews 12:1 we are called to, “Strip off every weight that slows us down.”
We can live and manage our distractions by focusing on Jesus with everything we do. When we do this, everything that was previously labeled a distraction now becomes an opportunity to spread the word. If we allow God to shine his light through what was intended to be a distraction, then it will be much harder to be pulled away from our living and loving Father.
Lord I ask that you help me to recognize what my distractions from you are. I will take these distractions and put you before them all, so that I can stay close to you; and so that your light can shine through me and be seen by all. Amen
