The Source

He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Revelation 21:6 (NIV)

Mountains are mentioned more than 500 times in the Bible, and in our world today the fresh water comes from mountain springs. Fiji water starts as equatorial trade winds purify the clouds and tropical rain falls on a pristine rainforest through one of the world’s last virgin ecosystems. Those waters filter through layers of volcanic rock, slowly gathering the natural minerals and electrolytes that give Fiji water its smooth taste. Deep below the earth’s surface, shielded from external elements by confining layers of rock. Natural pressure forces the water towards the surface, where it’s bottled at the source, free from human contact until you unscrew the cap. Untouched by man they say.

All that to get a drink of water that will still leave you thirsty. You don’t have to climb the mountain to experience God. In the Old Testament, many pagans would go up on a mountain to get closer to their gods, and by getting closer to the source, they believed it brought them purity. Jesus went to an altar called the cross, and because of His sacrifice, we can spiritually never thirst again. He is the source of life and provides water from the spring of Life that creates a well in us. We don’t have to go to the source when the source lives in us. No matter whether you are on the mountain in life or the valley. Good things run downhill.

Lord, you are my source of Life. Open my heart to see your presence in my life. Father, I choose you as my source today, amen.
