And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!” Nehemiah 8:10 (NLT)
Nehemiah stated that the joy of the Lord is our strength. I believe in the context in which he is speaking that joy represents giving. I may have been broken, but I have found truth in Jesus. Instead of just holding that truth to myself, I should celebrate it and share it with others. Give by speaking Life to others, and in doing so, the joy that I have found is filled back up only by the supplier of joy. The joy of the Lord is my strength.
Two questions to think about today. What or who is the supplier of your joy? Do you believe that your words could save someone’s life?
We have a hard time sharing good things, but God isn’t a good thing that you can run out of. There is always more of God. Share the joy of knowing Jesus today with someone and rest in the joy that He pours back into your heart. It is better to give than receive. With Jesus in your life we can both give and receive.
Father, soften my heart and give me the courage to give your joy to others by speaking about the life of Jesus. Amen.
