Wrong Hunger

"The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “

Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.”

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. John 6:33-35 Have you ever been so hungry that something like crackers tasted satisfying? I mean, many of us have eaten things we would have usually passed up if we weren't starving. When people are physically starving, they usually aren't very picky. The same is true for people who are starving spiritually. People who are starving to be loved, and valued will almost accept anything to meet those pangs of hunger. Gangs exist because the desire to belong is greater than the desire to be good. Drug addiction is at an all-time high because the desire for meaningful experiences is greater than the consequence of loss of life. The same can be true of us. If we have not allowed ourselves to be filled with the Bread of Life (a relationship with Jesus) our appetites become twisted. We can end up trying to satisfy our spiritual hunger with physical things (crackers). I don't have to get into all the ways we may attempt to do this, but I do have to say this:

If you are starving for affection, meaning, and purpose, it is only because

you haven't been feeding on the Bread of Life - Jesus. If you are starving, it is because you are starving. You are spiritually malnourished and there is nothing in the created physical world that can satisfy and feed your soul. It would be like trying to nourish your physical hunger with sugar alone. You may be eating something, and it may give you temporary energy, but in the end, you will still be starving and dying. Only the Creator can provide for all your needs, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Stop eating sugar and stop trying to be satisfied with crackers. Instead, go to Jesus, The Bread of your life and mine. Prayer Lord Jesus, forgive me for trying to satisfy my spiritual hunger with wrong and worldly things. Help me to find my nourishment and strength in You alone. Amen
