God Is Serious About Your Soul

"Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person." Genesis 2:7 (NLT) When you wake up in the morning, what's the first thing you think about? I'm sure it may be something like "I want to go back to sleep." If we are honest, most of us usually start days thinking about and taking care of the things of temporal importance. We look at our phones, checking our social media accounts. We think about our upcoming schedules and then head to a mirror to make sure our appearances are up to par. Where does care and concern for our souls fit into that routine? According to Genesis 2:7 man wasn't fully alive until God breathed His breath of life into him. It was only then that, "Man became a living person." When God breathed into man, the man became a soul creature. Because of this truth, we are not bodies with a soul, but souls with a body. Our lives are not found in our bodies, which is our outer shell, but instead, in our souls, which is our inner person. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Don’t judge by his appearance or height... The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'” I would translate this verse, "Man is focused and concerned about the outward stuff, But I am focused and concerned about man's heart, his soul, which is the real him." [Emphasis mine} If God is so concerned and focused on our inward being (soul), shouldn't we?

Here's my challenge: Over the next month, for your morning and evening routines, choose to focus on your soul instead. Now I'm not saying, don't plan your days, don't take a shower and don't brush your teeth, which probably wouldn't change some routines anyway - Haha. But instead of doing those things first, what if, when you woke up, you immediately picked up your Bible, read and prayed. By spending daily time with Jesus and focusing on your soul, I bet you would experience some real growth and healing. God is always concerned about your soul, and you should be too. Prayer Lord Jesus, help me to remember that when You look at me, you are looking past my outward appearance and into my heart (soul). Help me to be as concerned about my own soul as you are. Thank you that you have given me Your Holy Spirit who is always working in me to bring about Your plans for my life. Amen
