Don’t Limit God
“You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. ...We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” 2 Corinthians 4:5-7 (NLT) Do you feel like an ordinary, and average individual? Have you ever said about yourself, "No one would ever recognize me as special?" God loves to invite the ordinary and the unassuming into His plan. Let's just look at the list of people He chose and called to join Him on His Mission to reunite a lost world back to Himself: Abraham - A heathen and idol worshiper from the land of Ur.
Moses - A murderer who was on the ran from Pharoah.
Gideon - A wimp who God called, "Mighty man of valor."
Samuel - Was just a young boy.
Jonah - Was full of anger and a racist.
Paul - Was a chief persecutor of Christians.
Me - (James Sabin) a kid from Jersey kicked out of school in fifth grade and called "Brookdale" (my local community college) by my teachers of all people - You have to love the 80s - because they said I would never amount to anything. You - (fill in the blank)
If you have been transformed by Jesus, like the individuals listed above, you were those things. When God moves in, things and we change. Our weakness is no match for His strength. The good news of the gospel is that God loves to work with people who are unworthy of His attention. God doesn't use our greatness, but His own through us. All we have to do is be willing to say, "Yes" to His work in our lives. When we do this, God reveals His glory and people are brought near to Him. Today, recognize that even your limitations and weaknesses are no limit for God to move.
Prayer Lord Jesus, forgive me when I limit You because I believe You are limited by my limitations. That couldn't be further from the truth. Today I acknowledge that You are only limited by my refusal to allow Your work of grace to operate in my life. Jesus, I give you my life so that your greatness can be seen in me and through me. Amen
