"Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." 2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV) It's not an accident when we go to social media to avoid the realities of life and to escape or to see what we are missing out on. It's not an accident when we find ourselves unable to close our social media apps. They are designed that way. They are designed to create addiction, to exploit our psychology, to convince us they are necessary and that they are a primary means of connection. The truth is Remote Connections fall short of God's design for life-giving human connection. We were created for Real Connection (communion) with God and others, and without it, we are left alone and susceptible to the enemy and his schemes. God is a Trinity. Three distinct persons, with the same Divine nature, in a perfect love relationship with each other. No person in the Trinity has ever been isolated (alone) except for Jesus when He was bearing our sin and shame on the cross of Calvary. Since we are made in the relational image of our Triune God, we are relational by nature. Because of this, we can only flourish and grow in the context of relationships, and not apart from them. That is why loneliness and isolation have such negative effects on our lives. Like a burning ember that is removed from the fire, when we remove ourselves from fellowship (spending time with other believers), our fire for God starts to go out, and we become an open target for the enemy. Instead, if we open ourselves up to Real Connections with other believers by being transparent, accepting, encouraging and accountable, we will experience the life Jesus desires for us to have. We can't go it alone, so don't. Prayer Lord Jesus, help me to realize that remote connections are not enough and ultimately fall short of the real connections that I need. Help me to connect with you daily and to connect with other believers so I can grow in love. God, You are love. Amen.
