Rote

February 5, 2019

And so the Lord says,  “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote. Isaiah 29:13 (NLT)

Rote is defined as mechanical or habitual repetition of something to be learned. How much of our worship to God is something we have been taught by the repetition of other people? I am certain there are wrong ways to worship God, but could our worship of God limited by what others do?

Have you ever been guilty of getting in the habit of routine and doing the same thing over and over, but the way you do it is not genuine? It's just the unconscious effort we don't have to provide to sit through another church service or our small groups on Sunday nights. How much of what we do each day is stuff we don't even have to think about? You just show up and do it. Is that really living or is that just existing? Today can be different. As Christians we don't just exist, but we thrive. Thriving is living. Live life not by rote, but by worshipping the Lord with all that you are. Don't allow the habits of men to limit what God can do during worship or in your heart as you present it to Him.

Prayer

Father, Wash me clean God, Today I present myself to you. My heart is yours and my worship is real. Amen.
