“Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." Matthew 4:19 (NIV)
Words we hear all the time in high school, “come on, let’s go.” We all follow someone and the following leads somewhere. There are those times when someone says, “come on,” and inside the Holy Spirit speaks to you, urging you to not go because where your so called friend is leading you to is not a bible study, but something less productive. You know it’s a place your mom didn’t give you permission to go to or the car you shouldn’t be riding in.
Following leads to becoming. I have followed people that lead me to painful consequences on more than one occasion. The reality is that God is calling us to follow Him. He is the giver of life and as we follow him we are able to pour life into other people. Don’t follow men alone, but follow Jesus by living in His word and by praying. Follow Jesus and he will lead you to people in order to point to them to Him. “Come and follow me.” Who are you following? I hope it’s Jesus.
Father, lead me this day in Jesus name amen.
