A Life Sacrificed
“You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” Psalm 51:16-17 (NIV)
A sacrifice is determined the one offering the sacrifice. You can offer, but you offer what you want. We like to be selective with our Christianity. We like to live for God on our own terms. We give God our hearts, but not our lives. We can claim to be Christ followers, but when people look at our lives they don't see anything different. We want God our way.
I wanted God to help me win football games, pass tests, and get noticed by girls. I spent most of my time asking God to sacrifice for me and was less than interested in what He wanted from me. I'd give you a sacrifice, but that's not what you want God. The best thing I can give you is my life and my brokenness and let you build what you want. Pride gives way to a fall, but brokenness and obedience are what you delight in. Obedience is determined by God. We surrender and then we follow His plan not our own.
Lord, I give you my life as a living sacrifice and not a portion of my life. God, I am all yours. Amen
